Brief Introduction

INC500 series inclinometer is high performance single or dual axis inclinometer sensor supplied in a sealed IP67 machined aluminum alloy housing, it enjoys high accuracy: ±0.05° (room temperature) and has a wide range of options to cover a measurement range from ±5° to 360°, and it has multiple optional output interfaces including RS485, RS232, RS422, voltage output (0-5V or 0-10V), and current output (4-20mA, 0-20mA, or 0-24mA). The inclinometer adopts big brand components and material, and the cable are qualified for continuous outdoor use, and it is manufactured and calibrated in our own factory to guarantee performance and the real accuracy to the stated specification.

Adopting SkyMEMS proprietary algorithms, which reduce the non-linearity, cross errors, quadrantal error and installation error, the inclinometer has inherently good temperature stability, but this can be improved further with optional temperature compensation over a range of different temperatures. And it enjoys high reliability and survivability in harsh environment and the working temperature is -40~85°C. It has been widely used in heavy engineering machinery, pipe jacking monitoring, shield monitoring, cradle monitoring, solar tracker, medical instruments, etc.

INC500 series inclinometer has been widely used in cradle monitoring

Inclinometers and tilt sensors or tilt switches are vital here as the cradle must be level, steady with their base and stable when carrying heavy loads to be safely operated. It is also necessary to continuously monitor these angles when in use to ensure they do not become unstable, or exceed their safe operational limits. Inclinometer sensors used in such environments should be tough and reliable, as well as being compatible with different output types.

It is vital that the cradle in aerial man lifts supporting the operator is kept level. Our low-cost inclinometer sensors are highly suited to this application to provide angular position feedback to the hydraulic control system which in turn can adjust the angle of the cradle.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between the static inclinometers and dynamic inclinometers?

A: The static inclinometers are equipped with a 2D MEMS accelerometer serving as a sensor cell. This type of inclinometer allows high precision to be achieved in a static system, or when the machine only performs slow movements.

And the dynamic inclinometers (also called as vertical gyros) are equipped with a 3D MEMS accelerometer and a 3D MEMS gyroscope. An intelligent algorithm combines the signals from the accelerometer and the gyroscope to eliminate the effect of accelerations (e.g. due to rapid movement of equipment), vibrations and shocks.

And INC500 inclinometer belong to static inclinometer, which can provide high accuracy tilt angle in a static system or slow movement applications.

Q: What factors affect the accuracy of the inclination sensor

A: the inclinometer’s accuracy is related to installation errors, zero offset errors, and non-linearity errors.

Q: How do we calibrate zero point when we use the INC500 inclinometer? When the INC500 inclinometer output 0 degree, whether this 0 degree can be regarded as the absolute 0 degree?

A: it needs the accurate 0 degree value to calibrate the 0 degree calibration, and then according to the reference accurate 0 degree value, the inclinometer calibration then can be executed. When the INC500 indicated 0 degree, this 0 degree is the current measured angle by INC500 inclinometer, and it cannot be regarded as the absolute 0 degree.

Q: How to calibrate the inclinometer?

A: The inclinometer needs to be calibrated on a high-precision turntable, and then the obtained data is used to perform algorithmic compensation on the inclination sensor. At the customer side, if there is no precision turntable, it cannot be calibrated, we can provide inclinometer calibration service.

Q: How to protect the INC500 inclinometer components from failure?

A: The high-precision INC500 inclinometer is mainly used for measurement in a static environment or similar static environment. It adopts IP67 protection, and the device will not fail in normal use.

Q: What factors affect the actual accuracy in the applications?

A: the inclinometer actual accuracy will be influenced by the following factors:

1). The accuracy is mainly affected by the installation error. Since the installation error is inevitable, during the installation process, install as much as possible according to the installation method. If the installation axis of the inclination sensor is parallel to the two sides of the inclination sensor, then the installation error is almost a constant value. The influence of installation error can be removed by measuring relative error.

2). Temperature, the environment temperature change has an impact on accuracy

3). Zero bias error

4). Non-linearity error

5). It will be related to the g value, but it has little effect. It is related to the latitude used. If possible, please tell us the latitude that the inclinometer is used. We will write this value into the inclinometer during the calibration process to reduce the error.

Q: Whether there is possibility of building a one network with several sensors such as accelerometers and inclinometers?

A: yes, no problem, please let us know the details of your applications, so that we can make a solution.

Q: What is a CAN protocol?

A: The CAN bus protocol is defined by the ISO 11898-1 standard and can be summarized like this: The physical layer uses differential transmission on a twisted pair wire. A non-destructive bit-wise arbitration is used to control access to the bus.

CAN is a multi-master serial bus standard for connecting Electronic Control Units [ECUs] also known as nodes. Two or more nodes are required on the CAN network to communicate. The complexity of the node can range from a simple I/O device up to an embedded computer with a CAN interface and sophisticated software. The node may also be a gateway allowing a standard computer to communicate over a USB or Ethernet port to the devices on a CAN network.

All nodes are connected to each other through a two wire bus. The wires are 120 Ω nominal twisted pair.

ISO 11898-2, also called high speed CAN, uses a linear bus terminated at each end with 120 Ω resistors.

Q: What is slope inclinometer?

A: A slope inclinometer (SI) is a device for monitoring subsurface movement. Slope inclinometers are often used to monitor the performance of slopes and embankments. They can provide early warning of developing instabilities; allow the assessment of pattern, depth and rate of movement; and help engineers make better and more timingly decisions on possible remedial actions to such sloping movements. Other applications include monitoring the impact of excavations on surrounding facilities, deformation of structures, and settlement of embankment fills and roadway subgrades.

Q: whether the connector and cable length can be selected?

A: yes, no problem, please let us know the connector type and cable length you want, then we can do it.

Q: How about the delivery time?

A: for our standard model, if we have them in stock, only need 2~3days to re-test before shipping, if it is out of stock, then need around 2 weeks to arrange the production and tests. For the ODM electronic product, if needing to modify the structure, it will need around 3~4 weeks to arrange the production and tests.

Q: How to arrange the payment?

A: about the payment, please pay to our company account, the beneficiary’s name: NANJING SKY MEMS TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD.  And our email is only @skymems.com to contact with u formally. To notice this to avoid the loss.
